Product Overview

Irons designed to provide an elite level of performance for highly skilled golfers.
After receiving feedback straight from Tour players, Callaway Golf designers decided to refine the X-Forged Irons. The end result is precision clubs that let elite players dissect the course. Forged from soft carbon steel, the clubhead has been redesigned with more bounce and camber and a tighter sole radius. The thin topline, narrow sole and short blade length allow for excellent workability. The Flighted CG Design produces strong trajectories and premium distance control while the new Progressive Dual Notch Weighting allows weight to be precisely positioned for optimized performance throughout the set.

  • Forged 1020 Carbon Steel Construction: Provides unmatched feel and performance, giving elite-level golfers incredibly soft, responsive feedback at impact.
  • Tour-Inspired Head Styling: Additional bounce improves turf interaction and more camber provides greater versatility. The sole radius was tightened to add to the versatility under various playing conditions. The thin topline, narrow sole and shorter blade length combine to generate maximum workability and the White Chrome finish mutes glare.
  • Flighted CG Design: Provides the optimal trajectories, ball flight, and distance control that Tour players demand with seamless performance progression through the entire set.
  • Progressive Dual Notch Weighting: Placing weight on the top and bottom of the cavity allows for the Flighted CG Design. By progressively adjusting the notch weighting through the set, it strategically adds more weight to shorter irons and removes weight from longer irons to produce strong, penetrating trajectories.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

I bought these irons as replacements for a set of X-18 pro's and I couldn't be happier. The X-18's were good clubs, but had more offset that made working the ball difficult. With these X- forged, the heads are set virtually square and I can move the ball left or right. Distance is about the same, but the forged heads generate much more feed back and solid hits feel like butter.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

Not only do these clubs look great, they feel great too. If you're looking for a players iron look no further. They're not the usual thick top line that Callaway offers. Very workable. Worth a demo if you're in the market for a players iron.

I love these clubs. They have a great feel and are very workable. They have a great look to them and they feel as good as they look. They are going to totaly change the way i play the course with the distance i have gained and the amount I can work the ball.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

I moved from the big berthas (the most fogiving club in the world) to the x-forged. It took me only 3 times at the range to be adjusted...these things are awsome, I hate the clunky type clubs now that I use to have. You can be accurate with these clubs well at the same time have an amazing feel. On the website it says for "highly skilled" golfers. That is completely subjective. It completely depends how your swing is whether or not you can hit these. If you have a terrible swing, do not get these. If you have a "decent" swing, I highly reccomend them. What does decent mean? It means you keep the club on the proper plans most of the time, you have a proper grip, stance, allignment, etc etc etc.....

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

Just an overall great product. Very playable, but at the same time quite workable. One thing that i might change is the topline. It looks thick to me, although making it thinner might reveal the cavity. Still, great club!

I'm 60 years old 25 handicap player, which will be better for me, the X-Forged Irons 2009 or the Big Bertha 2008 clubs.
                  Thanks a lot.

With your handicap, the 2008 Big Bertha irons would be the best fit for you. The X-Forged irons are made for the lower handicap player.

As you are a 25 handicapper, you need 'game-improvement' clubs, like the Big Bertha's. The Bertha's are much more forgiving on mis-hits. Additionally, you will see greater distances with each club if you use a game-improvement club , like the Big Bertha's. As your handicap reduces, your need to 'work' the ball more will come into play and then you will need a 'better-player' club like a forged club, which allows the better players to move the ball with cuts and draws, hitting it high and low.

With a handicap of 26 you will probably need a more forgiving club than the x-forged. If i was you, i would probably go for the Big Bertha irons but this game is also about personal preference and some people just prefer the neat lines of the better player irons. On the course, i'm sure you will prefer the Big Bertha's. I still play Callaway X14 Pro series irons. Anyway, good luck on your purchase

I play once, sometimes twice a week and currently have a 13 handicap playing x20's. I want to be able to work the ball easier. Everyone says blades are difficult to hit. Should I buy these clubs?

I would advise sticking with the X-20's until you have a single digit hanicap as the X-Forged are much more difficult to hit.

As you're already a 13, which is pretty good as 96% of all North American golfers cannot break 100, you're probably able to force a high cut or draw the ball at will now. 'Blades' are very unforgiving on mis-hits (Any impact not directly struck on the sweet-spot). Game Improvement Cubs have a sweet spot the size of a 50 cent piece. Blades have a sweet spot generally the size of a dime. I am an 8 handicap and I do play blades now (KZG Custom Forged Blades), which I love. I have a playing partner who is a 5 and he plays the Callaway X Forged and loves them. He was always a little longer then me to begin with, but now he is at least a full club (irons) longer then me. I am seriously looking at these X Forged irons. If you are a consistant ball-striker, as your 13 handicap indicates, you won't have much dificulty if hitting blades, although they do take some getting use to.
