Product Overview

Irons designed to provide an elite level of performance for highly skilled golfers.
After receiving feedback straight from Tour players, Callaway Golf designers decided to refine the X-Forged Irons. The end result is precision clubs that let elite players dissect the course. Forged from soft carbon steel, the clubhead has been redesigned with more bounce and camber and a tighter sole radius. The thin topline, narrow sole and short blade length allow for excellent workability. The Flighted CG Design produces strong trajectories and premium distance control while the new Progressive Dual Notch Weighting allows weight to be precisely positioned for optimized performance throughout the set.

  • Forged 1020 Carbon Steel Construction: Provides unmatched feel and performance, giving elite-level golfers incredibly soft, responsive feedback at impact.
  • Tour-Inspired Head Styling: Additional bounce improves turf interaction and more camber provides greater versatility. The sole radius was tightened to add to the versatility under various playing conditions. The thin topline, narrow sole and shorter blade length combine to generate maximum workability and the White Chrome finish mutes glare.
  • Flighted CG Design: Provides the optimal trajectories, ball flight, and distance control that Tour players demand with seamless performance progression through the entire set.
  • Progressive Dual Notch Weighting: Placing weight on the top and bottom of the cavity allows for the Flighted CG Design. By progressively adjusting the notch weighting through the set, it strategically adds more weight to shorter irons and removes weight from longer irons to produce strong, penetrating trajectories.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

Couldn't get the distance I wanted from my X-16s, shots all flew high and short, took advantage of the 6-iron sale and put two on the green outside of 150yds first time out, 3 out 4 shots I tried with this club were very impressive, even for a beginner I am much more accurate and longer with this 6-iron than my X-16.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-Forged Irons (2009):

These clubs are great for anyone who has enough game to play them. I switched over from bridgestone irons and couldn't be happier; I can work the ball better, the soles are thinner and interact with the turf better, and they have a touch of forgiveness. The only bad thing is that they are not as soft as many forgings, most likely due to the relatively thin hitting area. Overall, great clubs, but these are not for the weekend warriors, or bogey golfers out there. If you purchase these sticks, you better have the skill to swing them.

I play a lot of tight courses and I do not like hybrids that much. I bought the 2 iron to add to my 2007 set of X-Forged irons to give me options off the tee and on the par 5's.Great feeling club and very workable.....[...]. The club came as described and I am very pleased with the product.

Upgraded from the X-20 to feel what a blade is like. First hit was like butter. Smooth and soft, 3 feet from the pin. This was with a 6 iron too. 7,8, and 9 can only get better. Looking forward to completing the set.

Am moving over to the X-Forged irons from the X18 Pro series. Went with a mid-size corded grip with an extra half wrap for the right hand. Feels like I have more control and no less of a sweet spot than the cavity back irons. The shafts are 6.5 flighted project x that allow me swing away.

With your handicap, the 2008 Big Bertha irons would be the best fit for you. The X-Forged irons are made for the lower handicap player.

As you are a 25 handicapper, you need 'game-improvement' clubs, like the Big Bertha's. The Bertha's are much more forgiving on mis-hits. Additionally, you will see greater distances with each club if you use a game-improvement club , like the Big Bertha's. As your handicap reduces, your need to 'work' the ball more will come into play and then you will need a 'better-player' club like a forged club, which allows the better players to move the ball with cuts and draws, hitting it high and low.

With a handicap of 26 you will probably need a more forgiving club than the x-forged. If i was you, i would probably go for the Big Bertha irons but this game is also about personal preference and some people just prefer the neat lines of the better player irons. On the course, i'm sure you will prefer the Big Bertha's. I still play Callaway X14 Pro series irons. Anyway, good luck on your purchase

Go for the Big Bertha's. The X-forged clubs are much less forgiving for a relatively high handicap player like yourself (and me).

Absolutely not. The x-forged irons are for better players who have higher swing speeds because you have to hit the sweet spot on these suckers or else you lose a lot of distance and players irons such as these fly lower so it's best if you swing harder(higher swing speed equals higher ball flight). Plus, with steel shafts they may be too heavy for you. Your better off with callaway's game improvement irons.

I would advise sticking with the X-20's until you have a single digit hanicap as the X-Forged are much more difficult to hit.

As you're already a 13, which is pretty good as 96% of all North American golfers cannot break 100, you're probably able to force a high cut or draw the ball at will now. 'Blades' are very unforgiving on mis-hits (Any impact not directly struck on the sweet-spot). Game Improvement Cubs have a sweet spot the size of a 50 cent piece. Blades have a sweet spot generally the size of a dime. I am an 8 handicap and I do play blades now (KZG Custom Forged Blades), which I love. I have a playing partner who is a 5 and he plays the Callaway X Forged and loves them. He was always a little longer then me to begin with, but now he is at least a full club (irons) longer then me. I am seriously looking at these X Forged irons. If you are a consistant ball-striker, as your 13 handicap indicates, you won't have much dificulty if hitting blades, although they do take some getting use to.

First of all, these irons are not blades, they are cavity backs. I have the original x-tour forged irons and I am a 10 handicap and I love them. I've tried these at golfsmith and they are very similar to my irons except that they go a little further. While they are harder to hit than the x-20's, they are way more forgiving than traditional muscle back blades.

not sure "working the ball" should be your goal as a 13..... maybe try x22 tour first... the forged are somewhat forgiving-- somewhat....give yourself a chance with the x22 tours first and get more consistent in your ball striking before "moving up"

I talked to 3 different people at callawy. All told me that all shafts from 2009 on are .370. Prior to 2009 they were .355
