Product Overview

The X Series is about giving serious golfers total performance with enhanced forgiveness for the ultimate in confidence. The new X-20 Irons deliver in every way by offering technology, innovation and playability that will take your game to a new level. Using the Progressive Wall Reduction System, Callaway Golf engineers lowered the center of gravity (CG) 6 percent more than in the X-18 Irons. Progressive Wall Reduction means the CG gets progressively lower throughout the set. The CG is lowest in the long irons, helping you get the ball airborne more easily. With its traditional styling and Callaway Golf core technologies, the X-20 Irons provide the performance and forgiveness to play the game with enhanced confidence.

Much easier to work the ball either way right to left or left to right. Great distance and control with a repeatable swing. Good feel, touch heavy but wow! Expect to be playing single digit handicap once I get familiar with them.

Comments about Callaway Golf X-20 Irons:

Great clubs, I hit them a little bit further than my old clubs. On pure shots they feel pretty much like my old set, but the real plus comes from not perfect shots, they still go far and straight.

                        A:

Outlet clubs are our highest rated Certified Pre-Owned condition. Outlet condition clubs have never been hit. However, they cannot be sold as new as they could have been floor samples or demo clubs. Outlet condition clubs could exhibit some minor scuffs on the sole or other form of shop-wear.

                        A:

The Tour model will have less offset and a smaller head, making it more difficult to hit. They are made more for the low handicap player.

                      What is a uniflex shaft???

                      • CUSTOMER CARE

                        A:

A uniflex shaft is in between a regular and stiff flex and is the most common shaft in golf. It adjusts to your swing speed so if you swing fast it will play as a stiff, and if you swing slower it plays like a regular flex.

I am thinking of switching from graphite back to steel uniflex shafts, particularly the X 18 or X 20 irons. I grew up with steel and at 75 years of age (14 Handicap)believe that they will improve my feel and game. What say you?

Asked on 2/2/2010 by The Grey Fox from Mahwah, New Jersey

                      • CUSTOMER CARE

                        A:

I always recommend steel shafts as long as possible. Steel is a much more consistent material and will be more accurate than graphite, however graphite will be lighter in weight.

I am wanting to purchase a new set of irons. I have been playing for three years, but not really competitive. I am 5 feet tall even and weigh about 100 pounds. My seven iron goes about 120 yards. I was wondering which clubs will give me the most forgiveness, but will also be the best clubs to improve my distace. thanks

                        A:

I would suggest either the 2008 Big Bertha irons or the X-20 irons for you. I have used both and the Big Berthas are more forgiving but the X-20 irons are a great set that you can use for years to come. The Big Bertha irons are more of a beginner set. You may want to get fitted to make sure you are receiving the correct length and lie so that your game will improve even more!

                        A:

A uniflex shaft has is in between a regular and stiff flex and is the most common shaft in golf. It adjusts to your swing speed so if you swing fast it will play as a stiff, and if you swing slower it plays like a regular flex. A regular flex shaft is designed for someone with a swing speed from 80-90 mph.

The general rule of thumb is that you would use steel shafts until you can no longer use them. They are more accurate than graphite but they will be somewhat heavier.

I might even go with a finer grit (280/300?) wheel first, but realize that after five trips to the driving range, they will look like everyone else's clubs anyway. The nicks really don't affect the pleasure you get from the X-20's, but the money you saved sure will.

An upright lie angle is more for the taller player, whereas a flat lie angle is more for the shorter player. An upright lie angle will allow the toe of the club to be higher up than standard, and a flat lie angle will allow the toe of the club to point lower than standard.

No, the uniflex shaft is in between a regular and stiff flex and is the most common shaft in golf. It adjusts to your swing speed so if you swing fast it will play as a stiff, and if you swing slower it plays like a regular flex. The rifle shafts come in different flexes (5.0, 5.5, 6.0, etc.) and are a little bit heavier than the uniflex shafts.

The X-22 and X-20 irons and any X Series iron are very comparable to each other. The X-22 irons will have a little bit thinner top line and different cavity back design. As far as performance, both will give you great forgiveness with the ability to work the ball as well. If you like the performance of the X-12 irons, you will definitely enjoy either of these irons.

I have a set of x20 irons. I have the PW and the SW I don't know the degree of loft of either and I think I need something in between. I can only hit the SW 85 yards but I hit the PW up to 120 yds. I've been told I need a gap wedge. Can you fill me in on the Lofts of these clubs

The PW has a loft of 45 degrees and the SW has a loft of 55 degrees. I would recommend getting a gap wedge as the loft would be 50 degrees and fill the distance gap nicely.

The shaft tip size of the X-20 irons is .370 and they are parallel, not tapered. Please make sure that you do not reshaft it yourself as this would void any warranty you may still have on the irons. The clubs must be reshafted with an authorized Callaway dealer.

Yes, when you lengthen your clubs, you will sometimes need to alter the lie angle as well. The best way to find out your measurements is to get fitted at a performance center. You can find one near you by going to www.callawaygolf.com and go to the retail locator tab at the top right of the screen.

You may want to go get fitted, but with your age and handicap, you could get away with using the X-20 irons or the Big Bertha irons. They are both going to be easy to use and forgiving but very affective as well. The fitter can assist you with your swing speed and the flex and customizations you may need.

With a set of irons, the difference between average and very good condition is that average will have about 100 rounds of golf wear and will have quite a few scratches on the face and the sole. This will not affect the playability. Very good condition will only have 10-25 rounds of golf wear and will be more aesthetically pleasing.

Uniflex is a shaft that plays in between a regular and stiff flex and is the most common shaft in golf. This steel shaft actually adapts to your swing speed. If you swing faster it plays as a stiff, and if you swing slower it plays more like a regular flex.

At 5'10 you will be fine in a standard set, meaning standard (black)lie angle and standard length. 3-PW mean the set is 3 iron thru the pitching wedge. SW means sand wedge, AW means approach wedge.

I am a retired senior golfer, and have always played steel shaft irons. I want accuracy not additional length. My drives are consistantly 240-260; my five iron 175; 7 iron 155.
Should I stick with steel, or could I go with graphite? FYI. I have a 65g graphite shaft in my driver, and love it. What would be the right shaft for me?

                        A:

The main difference in the regular flex and senior is the weight and swing speed. The regular flex is a little heavier and a little stiffer than a senior flex. For most players it depends on your swing speed to deciede what flex fits you best. If you are in the 80-90 mph swing speed I would go with regular. Anything below 80 mph would fit a senior flex.

Your lie angle depends on your height and wrist to floor length. Most people that are 5-10" to 6' are going to very close to Standard Lie. If your taller than 6' you might want to adjust your lie angle up and if your shorter than 5-9" then you would want to adjust them down a little.
