Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

This replaced an R7 superquad in my bag and is an amazing driver. The face is not as deep, but the sweet spot is huge. I love the way the ball rockets off the club face, even though it feels effortless. I tested the IQ against the R9 and the IQ gave me the best spin/launch profile ever. The Fubuki shaft is smooth and loads well. With this club, I just grip it and rip it, hard to hit anything but straight!

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

Great look, dististance, penetrating ball flight, and sound.

I'm still getting used to the Tour Series (.5* open face) set up, and push drives with slight fade more often than straight/draw flight.

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

i'm a beginner golfer and came upon this driver from a friend whom won it and didn't want it, i purchased it for an inexpensive price. the driver itself has a very small face but has a very large sweet spot, even if you top it it will still go very far. the two grey parts on the edges of the sweet spot allow you to draw and fade very easily. overall the driver increases you driving distances and control over your drives very well.

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

I tried this club at a Callaway demo day at my local course. I was bombing it straight away with a 5-8 yd left to right spread and consistantly over 260 yds. After a little thought and frustration with my previous driver I ordered one for myself. I took it right out to the range the day I got it and was still bombing away just like the demo day. However once I took it on the course I haven't maintained that control and distance. The course that I regularly play is rather tight with lots of trees along the fairway edge and a creek that runs along side many of the holes. I have struggled to keep this club in the fairway after hitting it spectacularly on the range. Perhaps it is just a case of skills not translating from the range to the course.

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

Played last year with an FTI 9.5 and just recently upgraded to the IQ. Still straight as an arrow, however, there is a marginal difference in the distance (probably in the realm of 15 yds or so plus). If you are looking for a club to keep you straight and still make your fellow playing partners feel bad about the nike and or taylormade in their hand then THIS is the club for you. It's scary to think that callaway can only make a better club after this...

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-iQ Tour Drivers:

I have been playing for a long time, but my driving lately was not as good as I wanted it to be. I was in the Carlsbad, California area on business so I decided to have a fitting at Callaway. Very thorough, I hit a lot of balls with a lot of different clubs, both woods and irons. After hitting a lot of balls with Callaway's latest drivers it became apparent that the FT-IQ provided the best launch and spin characteristics for me. I bought one when I got back home. Very glad I did. I did not like the square look at first, but I don't even notice it anymore and the club is the best driver I have had for consistently solid contact in the many years I have been playing. It's like you can't mishit the club.

When should you choose a stiff vs. extra stiff shaft? What shafts work best with this club?

Asked on 11/6/2009 by Greg D from Tappan NY

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Extra stiff shafts are made for someone with a very fast swing (over 110 mph) and a stiff shaft is made for someone with a swing speed of at least 90 mph. The shaft in the FT-iQ shaft is great, but if it does not fit your swing speed, you will not see good results. For more information on what fits you best please call our sales department at 1-800-200-4726.

              • Q:

My swing speed with a driver varies from 85 to 98 miles per hour when hitting balls in a simulator. Most of the shots cluster in the 89-93 mph figures. Would I be better off with a regular shaft or a stiff shaft in the FTIQ tour or the FT9 tour? Given the known variances in stock shafts which would be the better shaft for day to day play? I have and Fti tour 9.5 draw and most of my shots are straight or slight draw depending on where I catch the ball on the face. Could I go to a neutral face and an 8.5 loft to increase distance while reducing the launch angle (usually around 14-17 with the 9.5)? Ball flight with the 9.5 is very high.

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

From what you are saying I would recommend a regular shaft. Once you get up to around 95 mph is when I would recommend a stiff shaft. If you have a draw bias club now and like the shape of your drives it would probably be best to keep that draw bias on your next club. If you hit the ball too high now with the 9.5 I would recommend either going to an 8.5 or a different shaft with a higher kick point. For more info on this and different shafts please call our sales department at 1-800-200-4726.

The recommended swing speeds for using a regular flex shaft is 80-90 mph and for a stiff flex it is 90-100 mph. Most beginner golfers would be recommended using a regular flex shaft.
