Product Overview

Fusion Technology that delivers professional shot-shaping and Tour distance, for a fine-tuned game.

This is the driver the shot makers turn to. Versatility, distance and control all in one space-age package. The FT-9 Driver was designed to deliver the most creative shot-making you can think of. Fade it. Draw it. Or take it over the trees. With the addition of Hyperbolic Face Technology, ball speeds across the entire face have been dramatically improved to generate even more distance. Choose between Draw or Neutral configurations with the help of external web weighting that helps precisely position the center of gravity to promote the desired trajectory and ball flight for the desired shot shape. The FT-9 Tour Driver features a slightly open face angle and produces stronger, more penetrating trajectories preferred by highly accomplished players.

  • Hyperbolic Face Technology: Hyperbolic shaping is our cutting-edge driver face design. Mathematics and engineering combine to create our highest ever ball speeds across the entire face.
  • Fusion Technology: Proprietary technology creates maximum perimeter weighting and more discretionary weight by combining a carbon composite body with the titanium face cup. This allows for precise positioning of the center of gravity, which increases stability on off-center hits and enables ball flight customization for shot-shaping control.
  • OptiFit Weighting System: Enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them two center of gravity locations to choose from: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade, and Neutral for maximum workability.
  • Visible External Web Weighting: Fusion Technology allows the web weights to be precisely positioned for a center of gravity that generates the desired Draw or Neutral ball flights, letting golfers hit longer and more accurate drives.

Comments about Callaway Golf FT-9 Drivers:

I could not believe the difference in what this club brings to my game. I had a vintage 1995 Callaway Big Bird driver that I could hit maybe 1 out 15 times, in fact it stayed in the bag most of the time. The first time out the box and into my hands(at a driving range) I drove the ball 225 yards and right in the middle of my aim. What else could I say

Dan- keep one thing in mind...it is never the club head. Any club can be hit, I believe your problem lies in the shaft. Your best bet is to replace the shaft with the same one you use on your x3wood. Also make sure your club length is cut or lengthened to your height. One of these 2 options should fix the problem.

                  • A:

My guess would be that the shorter shaft on your 3 wood allows you to make more solid contact (hitting it on the screws) on a more consistent basis. Also if the blue shaft you refer to is one of the pro launch shafts those have a different kick point and tend to launch the ball on a lower more penetrating flight. No doubt your confidence level with the 3 wood could also be a contributing factor.

I believe that you must not be hitting the sweet spot or not commiting to the driver or it would make you hit the ball much farther.

I think the shorter shaft on your 3 wood is allwing you to make more consistent contact with the sweet spot (i.e. hitting it on the screws). Also the blue shaft you refer to might be a pro launch which will have a different kick point to deliver a lower more penetrating ball flight which might suit your swing better. No doubt your confidence with the 3 wood helps as well.

                  • A:

provided the flex is the same, my best guess would be that you make better contact with your 3 wood. A lot of people try to swing harder with their driver and it produces poor contact, confidence has a lot to do with it too.

                    A:

The FT-9 Driver is for any kind of player. It is tremendously forgiving. The key is getting the right shaft for your swing speed. I would be happy to handle this for you. Shoot me an email at ryan.pontius@callawaygolf.com and I will take care of you.

                  • A:

I feel the handicap doesn't matter because I have a 15 handicap and this club has helped me improve. However your speed really effects the shaft you choose, I swing around 60mph and generally anything under 90mph you should use a regular shaft.

                  i-mix set up
                  matrix shaft
                  What are these?

                    A:

The FT-9 comes with and without the I-mix. The I-mix is a novel concept that allows you to change shafts out of the head. You would buy the FT-9 I-mix head and then one or as many shafts to fit your game. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. You can email me at ryan.pontius@callawaygolf.com.

I am considering the ft-9. what is the difference between the neutral and draw? Both are closed 1 degree. Are both heads the same size?

                    A:

Yes, both will have the same size head and will be 1° closed. The draw bias club will have more weight toward the heel of the club, which will help reduce a fade/slice. The neutral bias club will have a centered weighting and will be better for shaping the ball.

                    A:

The regular FT-9 will have a 1° closed face and will come in full degree lofts. The FT-9 Tour will have a 1° open face and will come in half degree lofts. The Tour version will also have a heavier shaft which will help keep the ball flight lower.

Currently playing the FT9 with a stiff shaft with a swing speed of 105 mph. At what speed should an x-stiff be considered?

I would recommend considering an X-Stiff shaft once your swing speed is over 110 mph. If you think you might need a stiffer shaft, I would suggest being fitted by a certified Callaway retailer. For a list of retailers near you, please visit www.callawaygolf.com.
