X-Forged Vintage Wedges
How Many Reviews Does It Take?
I just received my 52 degree approach wedge from Callaway Pre-Owned. Once again, you guys are great! I was a bit disappointed that the club seemed to not have been cleaned, (original rust still intact,) and the grip was a bit worn, but this was an average condition club. About 30 minutes spent sharpening the grooves and cleaning the rust... (I like the rust, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't MY rust!) ...with a little spit and elbow grease this club is no longer an average condition club! A regrip at the end of the season will make it just like the others in my set.
I just had a club fitting, so now know exactly what I need in clubs. (No other brand works as well for my swing, from wedges through driver.) I was lucky enough to find an approach wedge with a 1 flat (gold) lie to fit with the rest of my set.
I started this year with a 32 handicap and have managed to drop 20 strokes so far. Part in finally breaking down and taking lessons and part due to getting fitted for the right club configuration. This was the last gap I needed to fill and since I already have a 56 degree X Forged it just made sense to get the 52 and I don't regret it in the least. Just as much spin as the 56. Great control in my approaches and a bit better for chipping than my 56 due to the more vertical club face.
At 60 years old, I'm tearing up the course! It's like Callaway made their clubs just for me. I'm getting better and better each time I go out and this 52 degree approach wedge made the difference between finessing my PW or overhitting my SW to finally get me to within 2 strokes of par!
It's not just the clubs, of course, but without Callaway's design and quest for quality, I expect I'd be still struggling a bit more with a competitors brand.

Only problem is grip and that's an easy fix. I feel all wedges should have corded grips.

Awesomely fun club. Not much practicality.
This review is for the 64 degree X-Forged Loft Wedge. I have an amazingly fun time hitting this club. I just don't seem to skull shots and it doesn't really dig too deep either so that I don't end up stuck under the ball. It just pops the ball into the air with a ton of spin. The only caveat is that there's not a whole heck of a lot of distance. Which makes it a bit redundant in my bag. Not to mention the weird loft puts it pretty much out of reach of my other clubs. I try to keep a four degree gap, sometimes more on the back end, but I usually end up with a 52/56/60 setup with wedges, and that may even be too much loft. I just don't have a practical purpose for a 64 degree wedge, however much fun it is to hit.
Quality and workmanship was top notch. I enjoy Callaway irons, and this one is no exception. Someone who needs a short distance spinner might find more use than I did. Or, if you just want to have some fun at the range and test yourself. Overall, not a bad club.

Bought this club because I needed something I could hit about 110 yards. Although the distance isn't quite there yet. I have been able to hit some of my best shots of the year with this club.

Dont let the finish fool you
Doesn't matter how bad the finish looks on these. Play about 15 rounds and clean them well and they shine. I play mine with a little softer grip than my normal irons and larger so I can hold them a little loose and really let it glide off the turf.

Best Purchase so far.
I got a used and was a little hesitent upon receipt. The Club face looked cast-iron like and made me really skeptical. After the first round I played I quickly changed my tune.
If you hit your PW solid even with taking something off your swing HIGHLY recommend you get a Lob Wedge. It is Money 80 yards or Few. Aim for the stick and hope you catch some roll. Most I have seen the roll with this is roughly 3-6 feet (on a bladed shot). I like it for the chip game too..

Callaway X-Forged Vintage Wedge 60 deg.
Club works great around the greens and out of the rough. Works very well when hit correctly. When hit off center, shot fades left or right depending on how it was hit. I golf for fun and my scores are high(110-120)but, with this club around the greens, I have landed more on them and closer to the pin. This club has given me more confidence in my shots with it. My next club will be the approach wedge to match.
