2014 Golf Digest Hot List Gold Medal

“With the thin cupface design, Callaway is incorporating more driver-like face properties into a fairway wood.” - Golf Digest

Deeper Face and Tour Inspired Shape

After all the incredible success that X Hot 3Deep had in 2013 ( remember Phil’s major win?), we had to go, well, even deeper this time around. That means a deeper face that Tour players prefer to create penetrating flight for more distance. That’s why it’s such a go to club for our Staff Pros.

    Hyper Speed Face Cup

We made it thinner, lighter and more robust. It’s how the Hyper Speed Face Cup delivers faster ball speeds with more distance to make these clubs even longer. Yes, you read that correctly. Longer.

    Improved Internal Standing Wave

The CG is precisely located, and because of that you’ll get more consistent launch and spin across the entire face. That leads to longer shots more frequently, which leads to you having more fun, which then leads to you playing more golf. You like more golf. We like more golf.

    Improved Modern Warbird Sole Design

This is our best and most versatile sole design and it makes the X2 Hot Deep Fairway easier to hit from every lie. And isn’t that what a great fairway wood should do? We think so.

    Aldila Tour Green Shaft

This premium shaft offering delivers excellent feel and control. It’s built to optimize launch conditions too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate this shaft. I have been working on this 3D Project X 5.5 Regular Flex Shaft 2 wood off and on now for about six months. I have really only hit perhaps 100-150 balls with it for that period of time, simply because I hate the feel of this beast. I have been using regular flex shafts for over 40 years now and that includes steel, and this shaft is without question the worst ever by miles. I always thought I could never find a shaft I couldn't adjust to, but I was wrong. My drives are in the 230-240 range, and this shaft is clearly too stiff for me. Otherwise I like the look of the club and it sets up nicely, but already the ferrule is separating from the club head. This is not something I would not expect from Callaway quality. By the way, all of the clubs in my bag are Callaway with the exception of the sand wedge and putter. And I will continue to use Callaway products, but will not purchase anything that has a Project X shaft attached to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from X2 hot 3deep Great club for those that have struggled with the driver at times, I hit this 3 deep with great accuracy and distance best I got out of it was a 273yrd tee shot and I have loved it ever since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ball go far! Reviewing the 2 Deep and 5 Deep Pro with stiff Aldila shaft. Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant to go out from my comfort zone of using anything other than a Titleist, but the reviews sounded great, and giving it a test run at the local golf shop confirmed that I needed to give these Callaways a shot, and sure am glad that I did! From the first swing and contact, you know you have a keeper and gamer in the bag. The clubhead size is perfect for both off the tee and off the turf. Club has great feel and heavier feeling swing-weight which I prefer as I don't feel like I lose wear the club head is in my back and down swings. I play to a 13 handicap, and was looking for something that will help keep me in the fairway off the tee when driver isn't needed, and also get me down long par 5's in 2, both of which are areas that I'm focusing on to improve scoring. No doubt that the addition of these woods will drop me to single digits in the near future. I must admit though, I wish the companies would make drivers in the 260-350cc range again, as I think you lose tremendous clubhead speed and ability to square the face at impact with the big 460cc heads, that's why i currently have a Titleist 910D3, while still at 445cc, it's still smaller and easier to hit. So naturally I was drawn to the 2 Deep/Phrankenwood philosophy of smaller head yet still respectable distance. I bought the 2 Deep for a 3 wood replacement/driver alternative, and the 5 Deep for teeing off on tight holes or going for it in 2 on par 5's. I was happy to find that off the tee, I was carrying about 275+ yards with the 2 Deep and about 245-260 with the 5 Deep! And this is only after using these woods for 3 rounds. Trajectory on these so far in my limited use appears to be a more low-moderate boring trajectory, with the ability to put a little fade & draw spin on it. Because of this, I was getting on my holes 15-25 more yards of roll on flat to moderately downhill fairways. On back to back occasions at my local course, I was able to drive the green on a short 325 yard par 4 that I was never able to do before. My driver never kept me in play when I tried and my old 15 degree 3 wood didn't have the legs to get me there. The 2 Deep had no problem, and with a slight headwind too I might add. I had similar experiences on 2 other par 5's on my course that i could rarely get to in two shots. But hitting the 5 Deep from the fairways and light rough, I had no problem putting it past 250+. In short, I couldn't be happier with the performance so far of these two clubs. The versatility and distance on these two woods will make it fun to shave some strokes off my game and hopefully get down to single digits. I know all of the above might sound too good to be true, but it's the honest truth and I think the results of having the right clubs in your bag for what you need.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from X2 Hot Deep, 5 Wd (18.5-degree), R-Flex, Aldila Blue custom shaft Purchased the club because of very good experience with X Hot Pro 14.5 Deep, R-Flex, Royal Precision Project X Velocity PRO Fairway Graphite shaft. Normal shaft for this model is the heavier Aldila Green, but found the 18.5-degree with Aldila Blue shaft (custom order ?). The grip seems to be larger diameter. Get higher speed reading (Medicus) swinging this club compared to my other fairway woods, but distance and accuracy on the course is not as good as with X2 Hot 19-degree 3H hybrid. Might improve with familiarity and practice with this club, but for now it isn't in the bag (find TM JetSpeed 5wH, 21-degree, stock shaft to be longer). Like the 2X Hot 17-degree 4W, R-Flex, Aldila Blue shaft better (it was second club in BOGO offer) about at month ago. Have only played this club a couple of times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Club! Superior Distance! This is a great club. I can hit it as far as my driver and have a much better chance of keeping the ball in the fairway. I can hit it from short fairway lies as well as the rough. I want a 13 1/2 degree deep three wood with a regular shaft.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not sure yet Weather has been lousy. After I get to hit it more the ratings could go up or down. It seems to be a good club but hard to tell in the cold and snow. :)
